A Knight of Opera in the Castle
The Underground Opera Company in partnership with the Sunshine Castle offer “Opera in the Castle” concerts on the last weekend of March and October every year (where dates allow).
True to the Underground Opera Company’s motto of offering „ accessible Opera in exhilerating spaces, the Castle Great Hall is the show-piece of the Castle and provides the most unique, intimate Opera to tourists and visitors from all over Queensland and Australia.
The Underground Opera Company transforms the Sunshine Castle at Bli Bli into the Opera house of the Sunshine Coast when Opera in the Castle hits the stage successfully since 2012, exceeding 30 outstanding Opera shows in 2016.
With complimentary canapés served during interval in the castle courtyard and an audience limited to 100, Opera in the Castle has set the standard for an intimate evening with Underground Opera. “We have seen some incredible performances from our outstanding casts and every year is better. Beautiful music and extraordinary voices in a wonderful setting.”
“I laughed, I cried, I cheered. It is rare that a performance deserves a standing ovation but I was straight to my feet even during the performance. The voices are magnificent and with such an accessible program even my husband is now converted”.

Founder and producer Bruce Edwards, a miner of twenty years experience, is excited with the future of the Company. “The audiences have certainly voiced their approval, by making us Ticketmaster’s top rated Opera Company in the Country, so I think we might be doing something right” said Bruce.
Opera in the Castle features some of Australia’s finest performers. “I am very fortunate to be able to produce concerts with such extraordinary performers in such breathtaking spaces” said Bruce. “It is amazing when you can sit in a space only meters away from voices that have performed at some of the best Opera Houses in the world. The intimate concerts, like Opera in the Castle, showcase these magnificent voices.”
“They transform the audible into something physical and break down the barrier between audience and performer,” he continued. “Personally, if I am watching a show, I like to feel like I am part of it and this is what I want our audience to feel”.
